Quinta dos Urgais Touriga Nacional 2004
This single variety red wine from the Távora-Varosa Demarcated Region convinced the judges of the Austrian Wine Challenge 2006, confirming the international acknowledgement of the quality of the wines produced in this region.

The Austrian Wine Challenge (AWC) 2006 had 5118 wines competing from 29 demarcated regions in the five continents of the world. In this international competition DOC Quinta dos Urgais Touriga Nacional 2004 won a silver medal, attesting to the quality of this wine from the Távora-Varosa Demarcated Region.

“We are extremely pleased with the medal. We feel that it correctly recognizes our work! It has also come at a good time, as it reinforces the quality of the wines produced in this region”, says the producer, António Carlos Pinto Ribeiro, whose wines can be tasted in the Manor House Tourism of Casa de Santo António de Britiande, which also offers Wine Tourism of the Cister Wine Route.

Made by the oenologist Diogo Frey Ramos, Quinta dos Urgais was produced by a total destemming vinification process. It was fermented in a granite lagar or tank with prolonged maceration and then aged in oak barrels. It is dark ruby in colour and has a clean and brilliant aspect. Its aroma has floral notes of ripe fruit balanced with wood notes. It is full-bodied in the mouth with a balanced acidity, and a long finish with fruit notes. Only 2500 bottles of this single variety wine were produced, making it a “rarity”.
